About Me

Phidong.com is my personal website where I share excerpts from my life.  My memory is not the greatest so my main goal and purpose of this site is to catalog experiences for myself.  My passions are photography and web development. I’ve started to enjoy other activities such as hiking and snowboarding as well.

Past versions of this website included video tutorials and photo galleries.  While this isn’t something I plan on maintaining for this site, you can view my photos at my Flickr site and from time to time I may make some short video tutorials on new things I have learned (mainly so I can rewatch them and learn again if I forget!)

Less than 5 months to go!

I was looking at some footage from last season this week. One of my biggest goals last season was to work really hard on improving my carving technique. After the first trip I had gotten the feel of the toe side carve down pretty well but I kept more

    At least I’m consistent

I don't tweet that often so when I saw this in my recent feed it made me laugh. Apparently the last time I went to get contacts my RX had expired and I had to get an eye exam. I recently went to get more contacts and the more

  • Site Redesign + Updates

At the beginning of May I was interviewing for a job at GoldenComm. As part of the interview I was given some homework; design a WordPress theme from scratch. I decided to go all out and actually do it from scratch (not even using the twenty-ten theme!). more

  • New Phone

    New Phone

After 6 years owning phones with slide out keyboards (from the Mogul, Touch Pro, to the Epic 4G) I finally gave up the past for an Samsung Galaxy S4.  So far it's pretty awesome (much faster than my Epic!).  I've been doing a lot of reading on responsive design and more

  • 2011-2012 Season

This was the first "dry" season that I've experienced since starting.  If you listened to everyone you would probably think that it didn't snow at all but for a storm chaser, the snowboard season is always great.  Honestly, despite only being able to go up and ride under 20 days more

  • Stoke

I guess it's safe to say that I've been extremely spoiled the last couple of seasons so even with the weak forecasts, it's hard to get too disappointed.  Here is a video of one of the sickest trips from last season to help get everyone stoked for this season even more

  • Pow

It only took 5 months before I was able to get back on a snowboard and hit up Mammoth Mountain on opening weekend this November and as crazy as it is, it is only January and I already have half as many days ridden as I did my first season. more

  • Unfinished Business

    Unfinished Business

On Saturday I attempted to summit Mt Baldy via the Bear Canyon Trail in 7 hours. :dur: Unfortunately it took an hour to find the trailhead which left me with 6 hours. :wtf: Needless to say, I failed miserably. About 3.5-4 miles into the hike I realized that there was more

  • A Little Maintenance

    A Little Maintenance

Finally took the Civic in to get an oil change which was long overdue; the oil light finally started flashing and was counting down into negative miles. :hsugh:  What drained from the oil pan had to be some of the most epic oil ever though.  It had cycled through the more

  • And... I'm done.

    And… I’m done.

A couple weeks ago I took my Olympus 28mm f/2.8 and it served me well for landscape photography (pictures of that trip coming soon!). I couldn't help but feel like a 24mm would serve me a little better so I created an eBay search to try to get a more
